Week 3: (FYP 2) COMPONENTS RESEARCH AND FINDING

Activity: Hardware Follow Up

During the third week, I'm using my time to revise back the component I use in the propose project to be bought for the FYP2. After trying to use the existing item to make the system. I discovered that the Arduino Uno R3 is at the disadvantage because of the less pin provided on the board to be connected to the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module and the Bluetooth  module. Therefore I have decide to change the microcontroller board to the NodeMCU. This is because the NodeMCU already have an imbedded Wi-Fi module on the board with a lot of GPIO pin.\

Below is the component that have been research and need to be used for this project.

a)    Monitoring System

1-    NodeMCU ESP8266 (1 unit)

2-    Force Sensitivity Resistor (1 unit)

3-    TP4056 Battery Charger (1 unit)

4-    Momentary SPST Push Button (1 unit)

5-    Pin 2 Position SPDT Slide Switch (1 unit)

6-    Green LED (1 unit)

7-    Red LED (1 unit)

8-    220 Ohm Resistor (2 unit)

NodeMCU ESP8266

HI

The NodeMCU (Hub Microcontroller Unit) is a free software and hardware development environment based on the ESP8266, a low-cost System-on-a-Chip (SoC). The Espressif Frameworks ESP8266 has everything a computer needs, including a CPU, RAM, networking (Wi-Fi), and even a current operating system and SDK. As a result, it is an excellent solution for a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) projects.

      Force Sensitivity Resistor

FSRs are sensors for physical strain, pressing and detecting pressure. The purpose of the force sensitive resistor in this project is to detect the pressure exert by the contraction of chess when the user exhale. In most cases, a membrane-like flexible substrate with an interdigitated circuit pattern is used. When no pressure is applied, the circuit stays open, and electricity cannot flow from one wire to the other.

       TP4056 Battery Charger
The TP4056 is a complete linear constant-current/constant-voltage charger for lithium-ion single cell batteries. There are two types of common breakout boards for this chip which is one with only the charger chip on board and one with three chips on board. Here im using the the 3-chip breakout board (TP4056, DW01A and 8205A dual MOSFET). The TP4056 is ideally suited for portable applications.

Lithium-ion Rechargeable Battery

Lithium-ion is a battery with low maintenance, an advantage that cannot be claimed by most other chemicals. There is no scheduled cycle is required to lengthen the battery's life. Furthermore, compared to nickel-cadmium, the self-discharge is less than half. This is because lithium-energy ion's density is two times that of standard nickel-cadmium, making lithium-ion well suited for modern applications of portable device.

Pin 2 Position SPDT Slide Switch

G   LED (Green & Red)

LED is use as the indicator for the device.

        Resistor

All the hardware had been bough online as we can't go out due to the pandemic.

1 - Force Sensitivity Resistor

This component cost per unit is RM45, where i bought two units of it where one of it is for back up plan.

2- NodeMCU

This component cost per unit is RM16.90.

3- Lithium battery charger module

This component cost per unit is RM7.48

5- 3.7V Li-On battery

This component cost per unit is RM12.69

The LED, resistor and switch is the recycle components from the unused project.
